Untitled

I have just about done now, except that it is too wet to get a good photo. The handlers jacket has been blended in to the BG better so it doesnt have that odd hard line, and the shadows from the tree are softer. I am definately going to mess about a bit more with it but its 95% there.

Nearly there

Nearly there now, Im not sure if I should leave the forground plain or add a few fallen leaves. I have a bit more refining to do but only a day or two until its there. Still untitled!

Colour undercoat finished

This is now the end of the first coat of colour, I really cant start any detail until this is dry. I am now leaving it until Monday when I hope to be able to start painting another coat over the horse and people, touching up the dark areas too. I have spent most of today painting hundreds of bricks!

Again, please excuse the terrible photo.

First colours

this is the first colour layer, I have just reached the feet as you can see, this is an exceptionally bad photo, the doorway is straight, and the handlers face is a nice tone not yellow! lol

At least it gives some idea of todays progress. I can see that I need to adjust the front legs of the horse particularly the fetlocks which are too short. I am looking forward to getting another layer on him as he is a bit flat at the moment.
Its coming on OK for the stage I am at.

Underpainting

So my new painting, as yet untitled, has finally got underway. I have blocked in with Acrylic (Raw Umber and white) a basic underlayer. I forced myself to use a larger brush than usual, so I dont 'fiddle' . I am hoping to learn from this painting, I usually tend to finish each part as I go, using a tiny brush, over blending and fiddling which has proved to be a bit of a downfall, so I am hoping to build this one up as a whole and try to be a bit looser. I am looking forward to the challenge!

This is 30 x 24" and will be oil on canvas.

This is a rough stage, the detail comes last!

New project begins...

I am starting a new project today, a 24 x 30" Oil painting based on the photo above which I took at Tattersalls Yearling Sales in October. I love the atmosphere at the sales :)

The drawing alone is proving to be quite a task, but hope to share it tomorrow.

Poppy Finished

Poppy the young Boxer is now finished.
A horse portrait next, though I wont be sharing the WIP of it, as the owners eyes may see it!
Watch this space though, as I may also be starting some original work at the same time.

Put her eyes in last night so she can see... I still have to finish between the eyes (her snip between the eyes is really thin)

Pleased so far though.

back to what I know...

I cant say how much I am enjoying being back to my Coloured pencils!

This is the adorable Poppy, an 8mth old boxer belonging to my Sister.

I know it looks like a pair of floating ears at the moment! lol
The ear on our right is in sharp focus..impossible to get a pic in this light :(

I have finished now, I dont think there is any more I can do and Im just fiddling. An interesting experiment but I dont think I will be persuing acylic painting!
