practicing..and finding refs!

Just completed this little pastel yesterday :)

I am searching and searching my million files for inspiration for an oil painting , I only have a small canvas for a quick practice to get back into it. The colts, though occasionally having mad playfights, are refusing to do it close enough to me to get the deatail I need. I have a nice headshot or two, which are maybe a bit boring but may do for a small attempt.

Nearly there now..

Lat update before the end..I am not happy with the foals neck so I may be fiddling for a while. I have changed the head from the ref for another as it wasnt a great capture but now it just doesnt sit right. Hopefully will still finish this today though.

New experimental pastel piece

This is more of an experiment of loosening up and 'going with the flow'.

I have a lovely collection of refs of this Mare 'Tussah' and her day old colt foal.

So I dont think it looks much now but Im just gonna see what happens. This is half a full sheet of mi-teintes and using conte and carbothello.

It really doesnt look any good yet ! lol

I have been good today and have been out Sketching the colts. I think this one really thought he could do a better job than me...

New pics of the yearlings

The Stud's yearlings have been moved to my end of the yard and I have been trying to catch some ref photos for my artwork. I just love these guys! My fave ATM is the Colt by Tiger Hill...look at his unusual white tail. Fab!

First attempt at portrait

I attempted this little sweetie as part of a forum challenge. For a first pastel attempt Im not too displeased with it. In fact I think that shall be the title of this!
