Commission in progress...

This is a commissioned piece of 3 dogs, I tackled the black one first as I have a dread of drawing black dogs. It worked OK though, perhaps the mistakes I have made in the past paid off :D :D

So this is part one....

Simplicity

A life study of a valentine rose just to fill a day :)

4 hours approx in coloured pencil on smooth white card. I thought it turned out well and I was especially pleased as I dont do much 'finished' work direct from life.

8 x 8"

Finished

As yet un-named, again!
Maybe something like, 'Heading to the meet' :S I am so rubbish at it! lol

more..

I think this is really coming together and I am pleased I kept at it. It will have a full background which will soften the edges I think.

Hunt stewards progress

Im not entirely sure that Im going to pull off this drawing, but its such an interesting experiment that its going to get finished anyway!

Interestingly, it seems to be taking me longer than my average coloured pencil. :S

The photos by the way, are MUCH enlarged from the original, the faces are about 5cm high in life. Shrunk down, it looks OK!

Hunt Stewards WIP

This will be a sepia drawing of two hunt Stewards at the Point to Point course at Cottenham. This has so far been a battle between loving it and tearing my hair out, I am SO glad I started with the peoples faces which is my bugbear! Looking forward to the horses, believe me!!! I have included a close up of the faces.. they do look less wonkey in RL (I think its camera skew). But you will have to take my word for that! lol!

New colt on the Stud

This is the second of the foals born on the stud so far, but I got to watch this one so I just have to share these cute pics. Everyone say Ahhhhhh....

Experimental sepia portrait

I dont normally 'do' people but I thought that a particular photo of my Sister would make a perfect sepia experiment. I have just picked up a little set of Derwent Drawing pencils to try, so 2 hours later this is the result. It does look kinda like her I think, and my children recognised her straight away which made me smile!

(This has been done on a small square of spare smooth yellow/cream card) Its approx 7 x 9"

Little Miss Attitude

Finished :)

I used conte pastel for the background, by grinding into dust and smoothing on with my fingers. A few blades of grass were drawn over the top with pencils.

Nearly done

Just a background left to do now, and to find a good place to photograph it!

The orange splats are not really there BTW, they are pencil shavings.. :S

Impossible to put down

This is hard to put down today - I am loving it!

These are the worst photos in the world but at least it shows how fast I can draw if I am enjoying the work. :D

I think I may even finish this tomorrow and then its on to a lovely commission.

Heres hoping for a bright day to photograph it properly tommorow. :(

New work..

I have made a few important decisions this week, the most important being that I have realised that my passion lies more with coloured pencil work than painting. I have made the decision to focus my work on this medium, though I still enjoy painting and hope to do some more.

With future submissions in mind, I have started a coloured pencil original of a TB foal. I am really enjoying it so far! The whole foal is approx 12" tall, ao the head shown here is approx 3".

It will be about 15" square completed. The green Canson card that I am using does not make photography easy! *sigh* Its a little softer in life. :)
